Martial arts have can be trained for a lot of reasons. Some train for sport, some for self-defense, some for fitness, and some even for combat. What Can I expect When Training at MKG Madison?

"Train Safe , Train Hard, Have Fun!"

MKG Madison is fun and relaxed. "We take our training seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously." We are not big on formalities here. No titles, traditional martial arts uniforms (Gi's) or colored belts. Come as you are, all we ask is that you wear an MKG t-shirt. It can be any MKG from around the world.

We also understand that some people just like to train, so there is no “Mandatory Testing” at MKG Madison. We do offer voluntary level testing in each of our programs. Those tests are benchmarks for personal progress and to assist our students with setting and achieving goals. Some also use testing as a way to fully exploring the MKG curriculums.

Founder of the MKG International Organization

Guro Rick Faye

Guro Rick Faye, world-renowned FMA, JKD, and Muay Thai expert, started the Minnesota Kali Group (MKG) in the garage of his Minnesota home in 1982.  Over time, a growing collection of local martial artists gravitated to Rick's unconventional training style and training space, until the garage was no longer big enough.  Thus, the first gym of the MKG family was born. After regularly training at, and hosting, seminars taught by Guro Dan Inosanto, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, and many other famous martial artists, Rick and the group at MKG began to organically take on their own feel, curriculum, and training modalities.  This was what would become the MKG Method.  Many big names in the martial art world got their start through MKG, including pro fighters, UFC coaches, actors, Hollywood stunt coordinators, Hollywood directors, and over 50 certified MKG instructors.  MKG International, the association that implements the MKG Method worldwide, now has over ten branches across three continents. MKG Madison is proud to be one of them.
